David Tolbert is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Neptune Beach, FL. David received his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 1994 from the University of North Florida. He was a George Sinclair Academic Scholar at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA where he received advanced training in Christian Counseling and biblical studies. In 2013 David was trained by Natal, an Israeli organization devoted to the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through the Wounded Warrior Project. He currently trains with The Gottman Institute of Seattle, WA and has completed all three levels of training in the Gottman Couples Counseling Method.

David has worked with post – 9/11 combat veterans and their caregivers for the Wounded Warrior Project and Courage Beyond. He served as the program director at an outpatient facility for a major hospital chain providing treatment for chemical dependency and other mental health issues. He has worked in various settings including psychiatric hospitals, churches, nursing homes, and a corporate EAP. While living in Philadelphia, David spent two years at Harvest USA, a Christian counseling ministry to men and women with sexual addictions. He also served on staff in the counseling ministry at his church, New Life of Dresher, PA.

David’s areas of expertise include couples counseling, blended family issues, adult ADHD, addictions, anxiety and depression. He teaches seminars on counseling-related topics in local churches including “Seven Principles For Making Relationships Work,” “How People Change” and “Helping People Change,” and he is frequently asked to speak at retreats and conferences on a variety of subjects.

David is married to Leeza and they have a blended family of seven children.  When not counseling he is usually fishing the waterways of Northeast Florida, cooking with fire and smoke outdoors, or trying to break clay targets with a shotgun.
