Family Counseling For Any Season Life Throws at You

DB+

Family Issues Can be Challenging

As a parent, there are some things you may just not be prepared for. From navigating challenging family dynamics to struggles that come from being a blended family, it can be hard to know what to do next.

At Living Well Therapy & Coaching, we use evidence-based therapy to help families navigate challenging seasons in a healthy and productive way.

We Believe Everyone Should Know

Their Next Right Steps.

Helping Blended Families

Marriage can be tough enough. But when one or both of you bring in children from a previous relationship into the mix, that difficulty multiplies exponentially. Your spouse’s bond with their children combined with your limited influence over them can at times cause you to feel like an outsider in your own home.

A lot of times, the same kids you thought would welcome you into your lives are regarding you as an intruder. It can be difficult when the expectations of what the blended family would look like are not met.

We are here to help you navigate the labyrinth of blending a family, repair the injuries that your relationships may have sustained along the way, and help you establish new constructive patterns for moving forward.

At Living Well we combine Gottman Method Couples Counseling and Emotion-Focused Couples Counseling with been-there-done-that knowledge of blended families to help you address your blended family issues.

The Wrong Plan Can Be Costly.

Without realizing it, many people follow the wrong plan to getting help, which puts strain on their relationships and individual health. This is what the wrong plan often looks like:

1. Pretend There Isn't a Problem

It can feel uncomfortable to admit there is a problem that needs to be addressed, but it’s always the first step in healing and overcoming.

2. Try to Cope On Your Own

It’s natural to want to try to solve issues by yourself, but in many cases, it’s just not practical. Others have been where you are now and know how to help.

3. Wait Too Long to Ask for Help.

Too often, it is years after the problem starts when someone finally gets the help they need. Help yourself and those around you by getting help earlier before the problem grows.

The Right Plan

This is our plan to help you overcome the past and get the tools you need for the future

1. Schedule a Consultation

You’ll get a clear understanding of what’s next for you and be matched with the right therapist for your specific needs.

2. Start to See Progress

As you and your therapist walk together, you’ll get a better understanding of how you can heal and start to see measurable improvements.

3. Get the Tools to Overcome.

Becoming the person you were meant to be is a lifelong journey and we help you get the tools you need to navigate that process in a healthy and fulfilling way.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never talked to anyone. I'm used to handling things on my own. Aren't people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. When working with Living Well Therapy & Coaching, we help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What's the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional helps you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why Shouldn't I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approaches to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can i do to help?

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
