John Pimentel, LMHC-QS

John’s career started in the Army, as a means to pay for his education, and then he went to college to study sociology and psychology. After graduation, he entered the corporate world where he worked as a software developer, business analyst, and project manager. His passion was mentoring other professionals, which is an interest he maintains today.

In 2014, John decided to make a move from “success to significance,” pursuing a lifelong interest in counseling and mental health. He completed his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015 and, ever since, he has been a practicing professional counselor. He works with all adults and adolescents, but his areas of specialty are in counseling men, because it is often so much harder for men to find and receive counseling; with couples who are working toward marriage; and gay and lesbian clients, including assisting them in navigating what is often a complex relationship between their religious or personal communities and their identities.

When appropriate, John counsels from a faith-based perspective, and he uses Act (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy). His overall counseling philosophy has been heavily influenced by Carl Rogers, which means he focuses a lot on the individual and unique person.

In his personal time, John is an animal lover, scuba diver, and father. He has adopted three children from the foster care system, and they are now thriving adults. In addition, he has a biological child on the way. With a lot of family in the Jacksonville area, he is here to stay. John is available for counseling clients through LivingWell on Mondays and Saturdays.
