Parenting Teens Is Hard
We offer counseling for teenagers because raising a teenager in today’s society is more difficult than ever. When your teen was younger you had a great deal of control and influence in their life. But now that has changed. The voices of peers and social media are more influential than yours. Some of those voices are, at best, misguided. At other times they are downright destructive. As a parent, you want to guide your teen and shape the kind of person they are becoming. But with so many other strong voices competing for their attention, it can feel like you are losing the battle.
Many parents feel shut out of their teen’s life and can’t get them to open up. Even if your teenager is willing to open up to you, knowing how to help them can be perplexing. Let’s face it. Today’s teens are dealing with issues that were unheard of in past generations.
When your teen is struggling or acting out, the battle to help them is one you can’t afford to lose. It’s enough to make any parent feel desperate.
Change is Possible
Imagine seeing your teen happy again. Imagine feeling close to them again. Wouldn’t it be great to be free from constant worry and instead be hopeful and optimistic about your teenager’s future?
It’s possible with the right help .
We Help Teens Find Their Way Again
Counseling teenagers is very different than working with young children or adults. To turn things around you need a therapist who knows how to engage with the struggles that are unique to teenagers and can build a trusting relationship with them. You also need a therapist who applies evidence-based methods that are proven to get results.
At Living Well we have counselors that are trained and experienced in counseling teenagers with multiple issues that they commonly face. Some of the issues we commonly address with Teens at Living Well include:
- Anger and Defiance
- Depression and Anxiety
- ADHD inattention and lack of impulse control
- Low self-esteem
- Social Anxiety
- Spiritual / Faith Issues
Christian Counseling For Teenagers
For those who desire it, we have therapists on staff who are equipped to offer Christian Counseling for teenagers. If this is the option you choose, you will be able to rest in the knowledge that your child is being counseled in a manner that is consistent with your faith and worldview. During the teen years it is very common to deal with doubt and confusion about faith. If this is the case for your teen, our Christian counselors will not make therapy seem like going to church. Their therapy will be tailored to fit with where they are in their spiritual development.
Role of the Parent in Counseling Teenagers
We encourage the involvement of parents and family as your adolescent attends therapy. When you work with your teen’s therapist to provide support for the goals of therapy at home, progress towards those goals will be enhanced. We can also work to help repair communication and the relationship between you and your teenager. This may happen in a variety of ways. Once we’ve developed a strong relationship with your child, they may be willing to have you join them in session or even have us share more details about their progress with you. We can offer the entire family communication tips to keep everyone on the same page and improve their own at-home relationships. As your teenager begins to feel more in control of his or her emotions and the stress that daily teen life brings, your entire family will benefit as your teen becomes healthy and happy again.
